Talking the Talk
Commentary by Robert McEvily

Politics aside, you have to give major props to Rudy Giuliani as a public speaker. The man not only knows how to take charge, he knows how to give a stirring, memorable speech. As part of the Republican National Convention's opening brouhaha, Giuliani was strong and serious, graceful and human. (With emphasis on "human.")
With the certain exception of Bill Clinton, Giuliani, more so than any recent politician, knows how to talk like a real person. No nervous glances at teleprompters, no polished catch phrases. Monday night, he skillfully managed to sound unrehearsed - no small feat in this age of pre-packaged politicians. I don't doubt his sincerity - his is a well-earned reputation - but if sincerity can be manufactured and fine-tuned, that version's better than the real thing.
Arnold deserves his props as well. Last night, he was sure of himself and touching and comical. Like it or not, the man is destined to be President. When he wants something, he gets something, case closed. The sad truth seems to be you're less likely to get elected if you walk the walk, more likely if you talk the talk.
Wanna win public office? Wanna win anything? Learn to talk the talk.
